Penn State issued a statement amid reports of Donald Trump attending a Week 10 matchup against Ohio State.
Trump will reportedly appear at Beaver Stadium right before Election Day. Pennsylvania is shaping up to be a pivotal swing state that could sway the presidential race between Trump and Kamala Harris.
According to Ben Jones, Penn State claimed the university didn’t invite Trump to University Park. Instead, a “private citizen” offered Trump an opportunity to attend “as a guest in their suite.”
“The U.S. Secret Service is working with University Police and Public Safety and other state and local law enforcement on safety and security measures that are put into place around the presence of presidential candidates,” the statement said. “With that in mind, we encourage fans, anyone visiting campus, and all those attending the game to arrive early to the game or to their intended destinations.”
After narrowly winning Pennsylvania in 2016, Trump lost the state to Joe Biden in 2020. Those 20 electoral votes helped Biden clear the 270 benchmark with 306, making Trump the first sitting President to lose a re-election bid since George H.W. Bush in 1992.
Trump has since repeatedly made false claims about the election results. He and running mate JD Vance, who went to Ohio State, refused to admit he lost.
Both candidates are putting considerable focus on Pennsylvania. On Sunday night, Trump attended the Pittsburgh Steelers’ home victory over the New York Jets. Three days later, Harris held a town hall hosted by CNN in Delaware County.
The Vice President confirmed that she considers Trump a fascist, referencing alarms raised by former generals Mark Milley and John Kelly. According to Kelly, Trump told him that Adolf Hitler “did some good things.”
