Micah Shrewsberry could be in high demand after leading Penn State to its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2011.
On Wednesday, the head coach was asked about his future with the Nittany Lions. Per The Daily Collegian‘s Seth Engle, Shrewsberry said he’s given his full attention to Thursday’s first-round matchup against Texas A&M.
“I don’t have time to focus on anything else but just being the best version for these guys, and that’s all I’m focused on,” Shrewsberry said. “When the offseason comes, then I can focus on other things, but I’m tunnel vision on playing this game for our guys tomorrow.”
He then called the inquiry “an I don’t know question.”
Shrewsberry led Penn State to a 22-13 record in his second season. The Nittany Lions earned a No. 10 seed after making the Big Ten Championship Game, where they suffered a 67-65 loss to Purdue.
The 46-year-old could raise his stock even more by steering Penn State to its first March Madness victory since 2001. Yet his team received a tough draw in Texas A&M, a program many onlookers thought should get seeded higher than No. 7.
The highly anticipated first-round matchup begins Thursday at 9:55 p.m. ET on TBS.
