The Iowa Hawkeyes entered today’s game against Penn State as 14-point underdogs and through three quarters Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz is pretty much ensuring that the Nittany Lions cover it with ease.
Penn State led Iowa 24-0 at the end of the third quarter with Iowa’s goose egg due in no small part to an offense that is almost comically bad. The Hawkeyes offense has only two first downs all game, is 1-7 on third down and has mustered a mere 57 yards.
The culprit for Iowa’s performance this week – as it’s been in so many others over the past few seasons – is most likely offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz, the head coach’s son.
Iowa fans have had more than enough and many have been taking to X over the past few hours to make it clear that if Kirk Ferentz is unwilling to fire his son, then it may be time for both of them to leave the program:
Absolutely, no excuses. 💯 agree. This wasn’t simply a bad game, it was an ineptitude of continued Iowa cluelessness on offense.
Brian is the head of that, placed there by the head coach, Kirk Ferentz. https://t.co/jQoyVxe5AP

If Kirk Ferentz legitimately thinks Brian Ferentz deserves this job, he should be gone too. Anyone with a brain can see this.

there is not light at the end of this tunnel. Kirk Ferentz cares way too much about his son’s ego and generational wealth to admit he’s wrong and his stupid fat meathead son sucks at his job. this is going to end with Kirk burning it down, and you’re watching it.

At some point doesn’t Kirk Ferentz need to fire his son? It’s criminal how good Iowa’s defenses are, and equally criminal how bad their offense is.

It may have been easy to ignore Iowa’s continued offensive struggles through the first few weeks because Iowa won all of them thanks largely to a defense that hadn’t surrendered more than 14 points.
But now that Penn State has reached that 24-point mark, Iowa’s toothless offense becomes even more pronounced.
Should Iowa fire Kirk Ferentz if he’s unwilling to make a change at offensive coordinator?
