After leading Penn State to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in over a decade and their first tournament win in two decades, head coach Micah Shrewsberry received significant interest from Notre Dame. Today he made a decision on his coaching future.
According to Matt Norlander of CBS Sports, Shrewsberry is leaving Penn State to become the head coach at Notre Dame. Per the report, Shrewsberry is joining the Fighting Irish on a seven-year deal.
Shrewsberry will replace longtime head coach Mike Brey, who resigned at the end of this past season and has since become the head coach at USF. The announcement will reportedly be formalized on Friday.
Shrewsberry led the Nittany Lions to a 23-14 season that included a trip to the Big Ten Championship Game and a stunning upset win over Texas A&M in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Nittany Lions narrowly lost to Texas in the Second Round to end their season.
Notre Dame will formally announce its hiring of Micah Shrewsberry on Friday, according to a source.

Micah Shrewsberry leaves Penn State after just two seasons but with a 37-31 record. But he’s no stranger to South Bend.
Shrewsberry is an Indiana native who got his first head coaching job at Indiana University South Bend from 2005 to 2007. He left IU-South Bend in 2007 to become an assistant to Brad Stevens at Butler for the next few years.
In the decade prior to joining Penn State, Shrewsberry enjoyed successful stints as an assistant at Purdue, Butler and even the Boston Celtics.
Who will Penn State hire to replace Shrewsberry now?
