Penn State athlete Cristian Driver is switching positions for the 2023 season.
Cristian Driver, the son of former Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, spent time at defensive back last season. He announced on Tuesday that he “fully switched over” to wide receiver.
Coming out of Liberty Christian, Driver was considered a four-star safety. He was listed as the No. 228 overall recruit and No. 18 safety.
During the 2022 season, Driver appeared in four games. The coaching staff selected him as their Developmental Squad Defensive Player of the Week in mid-October.
It’ll be fascinating to see how Driver performs at wide receiver.
At the very least, Driver should have a great mentor by his side. His father had 743 receptions for 10,137 yards and 61 touchdowns during his NFL career.
This is somewhat of a full circle moment for everyone involved. After all, Penn State head coach James Franklin was Donald Driver’s wide receivers coach for the Packers in 2005.
