LaVar Arrington’s son announced his college commitment this week.
LaVar Arrington II, the son of former NFL linebacker and Penn State legend LaVar Arrington, committed to Penn State on Thursday, July 4.

Arrington Jr. is a three-star recruit and the 45th-best prospect in his home state (California), per 247Sports composite rankings. He’s also the 38th-best athlete recruit in the country and the No. 570 overall recruit in the nation, regardless of position.
He’s a legacy recruit after his dad played for the program from 1998-1999. He was later the second overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders.
He went on to have a good NFL career and played in the league from 2000-06. Arrington played for the Commanders for the first six seasons of his career before finishing his career with the New York Giants.
Arrington ended his career with 417 total tackles, 23.5 sacks, seven fumble recoveries, six forced fumbles, and 38 passes defended in 85 games.
His son will be trying to follow in his footsteps as a Penn State legacy recruit. The program currently has the eighth-best recruiting class in 2025, per 247Sports.
Penn State’s first game of the 2024 season will be against West Virginia on August 31.
