Panthers win their 5th straight in strong road performance
Guard Jamarius Burton scored 24 points and Blake Hinson added 13 points and 8 rebounds as Pitt opened ACC play with a 68-60 on the road against NC State last night. Nike Sibande had ten off the bench as the final Panther in double figures. Greg Elliott contributed seven points and a career-high nine rebounds (besting his previous high of six).
NC State came out firing as their potential lottery pick guard Terquavion Smith hit threes on two of their first three possessions. Outside of Smith’s 15 and D.J. Burns’ 13, Pitt was able to put the clamps on the Wolfpack. Starting guards Jarkel Joiner and Jack Clark combined to shoot 0-20 from the field (including 0-14 from long-distance). This poor shooting allowed Pitt to overcome NC State’s 12 offensive rebounds.
Takeaways:
- Jamarius Burton and Blake Hinson are all over the ACC leaderboard (9th in points, 8th in assists, 2nd in fg% for Burton and 6th in points, 10th in rebounds, 7th in fg% for Hinson)
- Nike Sibande continues to be a force off the bench, scoring in double figures in four of the five games during Pitt’s winning streak.
- It was another quiet game for John Hugley (2 points in 14 minutes) as he works his way back into game shape. Once he gets warmed up, Pitt will be even more dangerous.
Pitt will take on Vanderbilt next on Dec. 7 at 9 pm.
