Papa Kante, the 6-foot-10 four-star Class of 2023 big man from South Kent (CT) and the NY Rens, has committed to Pittsburgh after asking for his release from Michigan, his announced.
“Family and a great coaching staff who can help me be ready for the next level,” Kante told ZAGSBLOG of why he chose the Panthers.
Ranked the No. 9 center in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports.com, Kante initially considered Pitt along with Michigan, Maryland, Memphis and Rutgers.
“He is still young to the game in terms of how long he’s been playing so he definitely still has room to grow as a player,” South Kent coach Raphael Chillious told ZAGSBLOG.
“He’s a skilled forward with the ability to run the court at a high level, can switch and guard multiple positions, make open/rhythm threes, and finish around the rim. He has a terrific motor and is a flat out warrior.”
Kante joins transfers Ishamel Leggett (Rhode Island) and Zach Austin (High Point) and Class of 2023 prospects Jaland Lowe, Carlton Carrington and Marlon Barnes Jr. in Pitt’s class.
