Pitt has been active in the portal, let’s take a look at who has offers

In today’s college football world, the transfer portal is an important tool to build out your program. Everyone has their individual feelings on if the portal is good for college football or not, but it is something that everyone has had a close eye on since expanding the transfer rules. With that, we bring you the Portal Prowl, an eye on who the Pittsburgh Panthers are offering in the portal.

The Panthers have already landed one player in quarterback Phil Jurkovec, a Boston College transfer who will look to be the new starter come next season. Let’s take a look at some of the other players who have been offered by the Panthers so far.

Dante Cephas, Wide Receiver

Cephas announced his decision to leave Kent State and is one of the hottest names in the transfer portal. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native is a game-changing playmaker and was one of the most productive receivers in Kent State history.

Cephas finished his Kent State career with 2,139 yards and 12 touchdowns. Pitt is fighting against multiple other power 5 programs who are all in on the 6’1 receiver. Cephas also has offers from West Virginia, Penn State, Notre Dame, Miami, Oklahoma, Georgia, and more. The Panthers will have to press hard to win Cephas’ services and bring the Pittsburgh native home to play in front of friends and family.

Trevion Cooley, Running Back

Cooley announced his decision to leave the Louisville Cardinals after two seasons. The running back has 948 total yards and six total touchdowns after two years in Louisville. Cooley saw a reduction in minutes from year one to year two and did not play in the final four games of the season for the Cardinals.

Cooley is a 5-foot-10, 211-pound back with physical traits that fit the offensive scheme. Cooley also has an offer from North Carolina State.

Daejon Reynolds, Wide Receiver

Reynolds is a 6’2 receiver who decided to transfer out of the University of Florida. He was seldom used during his time in Gainesville but did have a huge game against Vanderbilt this past year that showcased the potential Reynolds has. The receiver out of Illinois had 8 catches for 165 yards and 2 TDs during Florida’s 31-24 loss to the Commodores. Overall, Reynolds finished the year with 11 catches for 224 yards and 2 TDs.

Reynolds also has offers from Mississippi State and Appalachian State.

Ali Jennings, Wide Receiver

We are starting to notice a trend in where the Panthers really want to upgrade through the Portal. Ali Jennings is a 6’2 receiver out of Richmond, Virginia looking for his 3rd school during his college football career. Jennings started in West Virginia where he didn’t get much playing time in two seasons with the Mountaineers. Since then the wide receiver transferred to Old Dominion and has been a reliable weapon with the Monarchs.

Jennings had 62 receptions for 1,066 yards and five scores in 2021 and earned C-USA honorable mention honors. In 2022 he caught 54 passes for 959 yards and nine touchdowns and has a chance to take more C-USA honors.

Jennings has garnered a lot of Power 5 interest since announcing his decision to enter the transfer portal. Jennings currently has offers from Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Duke, Louisville, Colorado, and others.

Donovan McMillion, Safety

McMillion is another player leaving the Florida Gator program after two seasons. McMillion is a 6’1 safety out of McMurray Pennsylvania having played for Peters Township High School. McMillion had all the physical tools coming into Gainesville and was looked at as a promising piece to add to the secondary. While McMillion hasn’t been able to carve out a consistent role on defense he has been able to carve out an impact role on special teams with the Gators.

McMillon also has offers from Minnesota, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Mississippi State.
