Just two days after being placed on waivers and having his contract terminated, Brandon Saad has a new home. The 32-year-old forward has agreed to a one-year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights. The contract is worth $1.5 million.

When the St. Louis Blues decided to terminate Saad’s contract, many thought that Vegas would be interested in bringing in the forward. Saad is coming off a 26-goal season last year. However, he has just seven goals in 43 games with the Blues this season. As a player who scored at least 20 goals nine times in his career, the Golden Knights hope Saad can return to form.
Despite his struggles this season, Saad brings excellent experience to the Golden Knights. As a member of the Chicago Blackhawks, Saad won the Stanley Cup twice, once in 2013 and another in 2015. Furthermore, Saad has played in 103 playoffs and has recorded 55 points.
New Forward Lines in Vegas
Saad will likely play on the third line for the Golden Knights. However, he can play on the top lines should the Knights need him to. It is unclear who will leave the lineup to make room for Saad. Vegas’s next game is not until Sunday, so there is a little time for the details to be ironed out.
Vegas Adds Depth in Hunt for Cup #2
The Golden Knights are in a close race in the Pacific Division. They will aim to win the division, which would give them home-ice advantage for at least the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Adding Saad gives them another weapon on offence and a skater who can hold their own in the defensive zone. The Golden Knights have never been shy about adding to their roster. That aggressive behavior paid off in 2023. The organization is hoping the same will happen this year.
