The trade deadline is still two months away.
While the NHL trade deadline is still two months away, the Penguins could be open for business on a number of different fronts.
Sportsnet NHL insider Elliotte Friedman discussed the possibility of the Penguins having a number of players potentially being available in his regular 32 Thoughts column that was posted late Tuesday night.
11. Pittsburgh’s made it clear it has forwards, defencemen and goalies available. The Penguins are willing to use their cap space to take on contracts, as long as it gets what they really desire: young players, prospects and draft picks (in that order).
Friedman didn’t specify which individual players could be available, but said that the team has forwards, defensemen, and goalies all available, which obviously includes all positions.
Friedman added that when it comes to what the Penguins would like to get back via trade, he says that the team prefers young players, prospects, and draft picks with players and prospects being more valuable than draft picks.
Time will tell who could be on the trading block for the Penguins, but as insiders like to say, stay tuned.
