Crosby will captain Team Canada and Karlsson will be an alternate captain for Team Sweden.
Sidney Crosby and Erik Karlsson have each been selected to be captains for their country’s teams in the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off tournament that’s being held next month.
Crosby will captain the Canadian team, a role he took on over a decade ago when Team Canada won gold at the Olympics in Sochi. Connor McDavid and Cale Makar will be Canada’s alternate captains.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to again represent Canada on the international stage,” Crosby said. “It is an honour to be named captain for the 4 Nations Face-Off on a team with so many great leaders. All of us are excited to wear the Team Canada jersey and to kick off the 4 Nations Face-Off in front of Canadian fans.”
Karlsson has been named an alternate captain for Team Sweden alongside team captain Viktor Hedman and fellow alternates Mathias Ekholm and William Nylander.

“We practiced a little bit in both [World] championships when he was the captain (in 2010 and 2024),” Hedman said of Karlsson. “For us to be on this ride together is always fun. Every time we get the opportunity to play together, we really embrace that.”
The tournament featuring Canada, the United States, Sweden, and Finland will take place from February 12 to February 20 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and at the TD Garden in Boston.
Crosby and Karlsson are the only Penguins who have been selected to represent their countries in the tournament.
