Chandler struck out four Phillies prospects in two clean frames.
The battle of Pennsylvania commenced in the 2025 Spring Breakout game for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies last week.
In a 5-3 Phillies win at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida, Bubba Chandler started on the mound for the Pirates and dominated Philly’s lineup.
Chandler did not allow a base runner and struck out four batters through two innings of work. The 6-foot-3 right-hander is MLB Pipeline’s No. 15 overall prospect and the best in the Pirates organization.
Lefty Anthony Solometo followed but gave up two runs on three hits, no walks, and three strikeouts through 1.1 innings. Hunter Barco, Wilber Dotel, and Jaden Woods all allowed one run apiece in an inning of work. Lefty reliever Nick Dombkowski is the only other reliever (.2 innings) who did not allow an earned run.
The Phillies prospects combined for three doubles, one triple, and a solo home run from Carson DeMartini to give Philadelphia a 4-3 lead.
The Pirates only mustered four hits, two from infielder Tsung-Che Cheng, and walked six times but left 12 men on base. 2024 first-round pick Konnor Griffin finished 0-5.
One of the top international signings in the Pirates organization, Tony Blanco Jr., went 0-1 while playing first base but infield prospect Mitch Jebb walked twice and scored one of the Pirates three runs.
Triple-A Indianapolis and the 2025 MiLB season begins on Friday, March 28 with the Indians in St. Paul against the Saints at 7:37 p.m.
