The Pittsburgh Pirates host the St. Louis Cardinals in the rubber match of their three-game series at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m.
Pirates left-hander Martin Perez starts for Pittsburgh, opposite righty Andre Pallante for St. Louis. Perez is 1-4 with a 5.28 ERA and allowed six runs over four innings against Atlanta after being activated from the injured list.

It’s the first time the Pirates and Cardinals will meet in Pittsburgh on the 4th since the Red Birds beat Jim Leyland’s Bucs 7-1 at Three Rivers Stadium on July 4th, 1996.
Derek Shelton’s offense continues to struggle driving in runs as the Pirates are three of their last 37 with runners in scoring position, including a 1-10 outcome yesterday. The one hit was critical as Oneil Cruz drove home Andrew McCutchen in the bottom of the 10th as the game-winning run.
The Pirates recalled outfielder Joshua Palacios from Triple-A Indianapolis and placed right-handed starter Jared Jones on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain. Jones was removed after the 5th inning Wednesday after 78 pitches.
The Pirates look to take two of three from St. Louis Thursday and move two games back of the final NL wild-card spot.
