We’re getting close to some Pittsburgh Pirates baseball.
It’s hard to believe considering the weather we’ve been having here in the ‘Burgh, but pitchers and catchers report in less than a month, so we thought it was a good time to take a quick look at some upcoming dates for the Pittsburgh Pirates in advance of the MLB season getting underway.
Pitchers and catchers report – Wednesday, Feb.12
Man, I could use a little Florida time right now too, but Paul Skenes and company will be reporting to Spring Training in less than a month.
First full-squad workout – Monday, Feb. 17
The rest of the team joins the pitchers and catchers five days later in the sunshine to get ready for the start of the season
First Spring Training game – Saturday, Feb. 22 vs Baltimore Orioles
The Bucs kick off Spring Training with a 1:05pm game against the Orioles, followed by the Minnesota Twins on the 23rd at 1:05pm and then the Philadelphia Phillies on the 24th at 1:05pm
First regular season game – Thursday, March 27 @ Miami Marlins
The Pirates start the regular season on the road in Miami when they take on the Marlins. That’s a four-game set. They then stay in Florida for a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays
Home opener – Friday, April 4 vs. New York Yankees
The Bucs have a big series to open up PNC Park this year when the Yankeers come to town. That Friday game lists a 4:12pm start time for the first game of a three-game series. The Bucs follow that up with another thee-game home series, this time against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Despite the awful weather here in Pittsburgh, knowing that we’re already close close to baseball season does make me feel a little bit better. Only a couple more weeks until we’re talking about real, actual baseball.
