The 22-year-old Yorke, who is ranked the team’s number six overall prospect by MLB pipeline, was acquired ahead of the July 31 trade deadline from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for RHP Quinn Priester. Yorke hit .355/.431/.507 in 40 games for AAA Indianapolis.
Alika Williams opened the season on the MLB roster, but was mostly only on the big-league squad when the team needed another player who was capable of handling SS, and when he has been with the squad he hasn’t played frequently. In 37 games, Williams hit .207/.242/.299.
Yorke will play 2B and hit seventh tonight as the Pirates take on the St. Louis Cardinals with Paul Skenes on the mound.
