The Pittsburgh Pirates rotation must be good if the team wants to win.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have their ace in Paul Skenes, but the rest of the rotation doesn’t look too shabby going into the 2025 campaign.
MLB.com writer Alex Stumpf points out how much the Pirates starting pitchers have grown as of late.
There’s a lot riding on the Pirates’ young staff, and it’s hard seeing them competing this season if their starting rotation isn’t one of the best in baseball. Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller and Jared Jones are a solid 1-2-3, but eyes will be on Johan Oviedo as he comes back from Tommy John surgery and top prospect Bubba Chandler as he approaches the Majors.
Injuries have plagued the Pirates over the years, especially with the rotation. However, this year may have the depth to help withstand and combat those injuries in the starting staff.
The Pirates aren’t expected to have many big bats in the lineup, which puts even more pressure on the starting pitchers to perform.
The Buccos may not need much offense with the amount of arms carrying them throughout the season, but if they can just get a few runs of support for their starters, it could be the beginning of the Pirates really making noise in the NL Central.
