Ever consistent and ever evolving his game, Thomas Harrington has not disappointed.
Thomas Harrington continues to work his way to the show, as Sunday saw him be promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis, just a year after he started his Minor League career with Low-A Bradenton.
Drafted 36th overall in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft, Harrington was a standout at Campbell University. Joining the team as a walk-on, the righty pitcher was awarded Big South Conference Freshman of the Year honors, and was the conference pitcher of the year as a sophomore.
That time spent in the collegiate ranks transferred over into the pros once he made his professional debut in the 2023 season with the Marauders. He had a 4-1 record in eight starts, 2.77 ERA, and 40 strikeouts before being promoted to High-A Greensboro in June, where he would remain for the rest of the season.
Keep ’em coming.

This season saw Harrington debut with Bradenton before seeing most of his action with Double-A Altoona, where he would start 12 games, compiling a 2-2 record with an ERA of 2.24 through 68 innings. This Sunday saw him make his Indianapolis debut, where through five, he allowed five runs with four strikeouts. He joined fellow Pirates’ pitching prospect Bubba Chandler, who was also promoted to Indy this past week.
Along with Chandler, Harrington joins a group in Indy that already had Braxton Ashcraft as well, as three of Pittsburgh’s top pitching prospects are knocking on the doors of the Major Leagues. It’s been a long time since the team had so many top-notch pitchers on one team, and now we have to sit and wonder who will make the jump to the Buccos, especially considering several more could be on the way up to Triple-A Indianapolis before season’s end.
Is there a chance that one of these pitchers sees action in Pittsburgh this season? It’s not out outside of the realm of possibilities, but for now, the Triple-A squad is certainly in good shape with their current pitching rotation.
