Matt Gorski is making an impact for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training is in full swing, and one player is building the case to make the big league roster.
MLB.com writer Alex Stumpf named Gorski as the top perfomer “making noise” in Spring Training so far.
This is a pivotal season for Gorski, who was unranked on Pittsburgh’s Top 30 prospects list in 2024 but has gotten off to a hot start this spring, hitting three home runs in the first week. The swing changes he made last season are translating, making him a contender for the fourth outfield and backup first base jobs.
Gorski credits his hot start to the confidence he has been playing with as of late.
“It definitely builds confidence, and I think hitting is at least half confidence,” Gorski said of his hot start. “Everybody that makes it to this level has ability and they have a good swing, but that confidence piece in the box is huge. So just having confidence early is big for me.”
With Spencer Horwitz injured, the Pirates have a shaky future at first base. However, if Gorski can keep playing at the level he has been at, Pittsburgh may turn to him at points during the season.
