The Pirates play the Phillies in the second annual Spring Breakout Game
The second annual Spring Breakout game for the Pirates will be played on March 14th at Baycare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida, against the Phillies. The inaugural game played last year for the Pirates was against the Orioles at LECOM Park, in which Paul Skenes started and had a showdown with Orioles top prospect Jackson Holiday. The Bucs won that game 3-1.
The Pirates released their roster for next week’s game, which headlines top prospect Bubba Chandler and five more players from their top 10 prospect list, which includes SS/CF Konnor Griffin (No. 2), 2B Termarr Johnson (No. 4), LHP Hunter Barco (No. 7), shortstop Wyatt Sanford (No. 8), and RHP Zander Mueth (No. 10).
RHPs Thomas Harrington (No. 3) and Braxton Ashcraft (No. 6), along with INF/OF Nick Yorke (No. 5), are not participating in the game as they are competing for an Opening Day roster spot. In total, 18 of the Pirates’ top 30 prospects (according to MLB Pipeline) are on the roster.
The Phillies will feature four of their top five prospects in the game: SS Aidan Miller, CF Justin Crawford, C Eduardo Tait, and RHP Moises Chace. Their #1 prospect, RHP Andrew Painter, is returning from Tommy John Surgery and is not on the roster.
