The Pittsburgh Pirates are liking what they have in their latest first-round draft pick.
The Pittsburgh Pirates made Konnor Griffin their first-round pick last season, and while he likely isn’t going to play for the big league club in 2025, he is still impressing in Bradenton.
MLB.com reporter Alex Stumpf named Griffin as the player making the biggest impression in Spring Training.
Griffin never had a chance of making the Opening Day team and has already been reassigned to Minor League camp, but the 2024 first-round pick opened eyes this spring, whether it was making diving catches in the outfield or going deep earlier this month. Sure, he’s mostly faced Minor League players this spring, but he’s 18 years old and not scared of the lights. That stands out as he is set to enter his first season of pro ball.
Griffin is still a few years away from the majors, but if he continues to play like he has been during his first Spring Training with the Buccos, the Pirates may have a gem that they can hold onto for a long time.
