Celestino, 25, has MLB experience in two different seasons, both coming with the Minnesota Twins. The glove first outfielder hit .222/.292/.300 with 4 homers in 145 games split between 2021 and 2022. He did not appear in the Majors in 2023 and was granted free agency at the end of the year.
Celestino was signed by the Pirates to a Minor League contract that included a non-roster invitation to spring training. He did not make the team and has not appeared in a Major League game this season. He was hitting .271/.348/.356 with 3 homeruns in 67 games for AAA Indianapolis.
In return, the Pirates receive cash considerations. With the exception of paying the salary of a player, cash considerations in a deal cannot exceed $100,000. It’s not uncommon for a player to be traded for just one dollar.
This story will be updated with the cash amount if/when it becomes known.
