Triolo primarily played at third base, where Ke’Bryan Hayes won a Gold Glove last year.
For the third time in four years, a Pittsburgh Pirates player has won a Gold Glove.
On Sunday, Rawlings recognized Pirates second/third baseman Jared Triolo with his first-career Gold Glove Award. Triolo earned the golden honor as a utility player, an additional Gold Glove category added for the 2022 MLB season.

Triolo is the first Pirate to win the utility Gold Glove and primarily played third base for the Bucs with Ke’Bryan Hayes injured. Hayes won his first Gold Glove last year at third, snapping Nolan Arenado’s 10-year run of consecutive awards at the hot corner. Catcher Jacob Stallings won a Gold Glove in 2021 before being traded to Miami, winning Pittsburgh’s first recognition since left fielder Corey Dickerson (2018).
Triolo, 26, registered seven defensive runs saved in over 1,000 innings. He played 527 innings over 61 games at third base and recorded an NL-best .985 fielding percentage (minimum 300 innings), committing only two errors.
In 47 games (374.2 innings) at second, Triolo turned 29 double plays and posted a .995 fielding rate. If qualified over a full season, he would be the No. 1 second baseman ahead of Bryson Stott (.993) and Jonathan India (.991).

The 6-foot-3 infielder beat out Brendan Donovan (St. Louis) and Kike Hernandez (LA Dodgers). Triolo won a Minor League Gold Glove with the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2021.
Triolo also played nine games at shortstop and first base. He patrolled right field for two innings and completed 2024 playing five total positions.
Congrats Jared. Thanks for using Sweetness as your walk up song!

The recognition is an impressive feat for Triolo in his first full season in the big leagues. Triolo achieved a 1.3 WAR despite a subpar offensive season. He slashed .216/.296/.315 with 10 doubles, 9 home runs, and 46 RBIs through 125 total games.
Triolo needs to improve his offense but could continue to become a dependable utility player the Pirates can count on to bounce around the diamond in a Josh Harrison-type role. Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds is up for a Silver Slugger Award at the utility position.
