Service men and women are near and dear to Paul Skenes’ heart.
On Wednesday, Skenes announced his continued support of the Gary Sinise Foundation, benefiting veterans, USA defenders, first responders and their families.
The Pittsburgh Pirates star right-handed pitcher spent two years at Air Force before transferring to LSU and becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft.
I am proud to continue my support of the Gary Sinise Foundation and its mission to honor and serve our nation’s defenders, veterans, first responders and their families.

He partnered with the foundation last season and will donate $100 for every strikeout. Skenes donated $17,000 last year following 170 strikeouts during a dominant rookie season.
Skenes is looking to raise $100,000 this season for the cause. He’s added an increased incentive for the largest donation between now and the home opener.
“To kick off this campaign, I will personally thank the individual that makes the largest donation between the launch of this campaign and the Pirates home opener on April 4,” Skenes said on social media. “This individual will be thanked with a batting practice meet and greet and tickets to stay and enjoy the game.”
The Pirates play the New York Yankees at 4:12 p.m. on April 4 to begin the 81-game home season at PNC Park.
“The meet and greet experience is for a mutually agreeable game date during the 2025 season,” Skenes said. “In the event that there are multiple donors with tied donation amounts, up to two prizes will be awarded to the first two donors.”
Skenes continues to be proud of his military background and to help our service members. The Gary Sinise Foundation was founded in 2011 by actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise to help service men and women in the United States. Skenes will start the season opener for the Pirates in Miami on Thursday at 4:10 p.m.
