A new entertainment area continues to be developed outside the ballpark and parts are expected to be ready when the Yankees arrive in Pittsburgh..
The North Shore is one of the best attractions for Pittsburgh natives and tourists.
From PNC Park and Acrisure Stadium, to North Shore Tavern, Rivers Casino, and various restaurants, shops, and bars, the North Shore is a thriving area Pittsburgh that continues to invest in.
The Pittsburgh Pirates replaced the sidewalk outside PNC Park in October and November and constitutes one of many additions coming around the ballpark.
North Shore Flats apartment condos built in the past year across Federal Street will be joined by an entertainment plaza set to be ready by Opening Day.
The Pirates host the New York Yankees at 4:12 p.m. on April 4th to kickstart the 81-game home calendar. Parts of the full project will be done, but according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, fans will have to wait on trying two new restaurants.
HiLife Hospitality partner Herky Pollock told the PG that “Sugarbird” and “Highball Social Club” won’t be ready for the start of April and project a September and December debut, respectively.
Pollock credited the pushback to construction costs and increased materials prices to shift their budget.
The entertainment park is expected to have a big-screen TV for people to watch Pirates games, and it could bring a big-screen environment to the North Shore for the Penguins playoff. Sugarbird will include a beer garden and a vast array of food options across from the ballpark.
The North Shore has changed drastically in the past 25 years from holding Three River Stadium, surrounded by parking lots, to multiple parking garages, apartments, hotels, restaurants, and bars.
It remains to be seen how tailgating might change and be altered. The plot of land used to be a large parking lot and open space with the potential to be developed similar to Wrigleyville and other entertainment areas across sports.
As the calendar flips to 2025, this could be a fun avenue for fans to continually flock to the North Shore as the main attraction point in Pittsburgh. It’s a great spot to invest and showcase the city across from downtown, The Point, and the Allegheny as the stadiums celebrate nearly 25 years in Pittsburgh! It is hard to believe.
It remains to be seen what the finished product will bring and how successful the businesses will be, but if it’s anything like area developments in the North Shore, it’s sure to become a major focal point. Ideally, it becomes a small part of the 2025 Pirates story and celebrated in August, September, and October for the first time in 10 years.
