What’s been the worse position group for the Buccos?
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Pittsburgh Pirates fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
The Pirates have been awful, there’s no doubt about that, as they’ve gotten off to a 1-4 start on the season. But in particular, it’s been the bullpen and their hitting that’s been especially artrocious.
The Bucs blew several leads in the Miami Marlins series, and both David Bednar and Colin Holderman have struggled already in this young season, with the bullpen being directly responsible for several losses already this year.
But the bats have been absolutely ugly as well. The Pirates are currently hitting just .174 as a team, which is 27th in the MLB. Their 15 runs scored is just 22nd in the league, and their .544 OPS is just 26th. They’ve also hit just 3 homers on the year (22nd) and they’ve struck out 46 times across 5 games, or the 7th most in the MLB.
So which position group do you think has been worse?
