Before sabotaging his NFL career, Antonio Brown enjoyed considerable success alongside Ben Roethlisberger on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Brown has done everything possible to destroy his legacy with a litany of disturbing behavior. It’s easy to forget his dominant run as a four-time All-Pro who exceeded 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards in six straight seasons.
The former sixth-round pick spent nine years in Pittsburgh before exiting on rocky terms. During a recent appearance on The Pivot, Brown credited Roethlisberger for getting him on the field.
“Ben Roethlisberger [was] the only reason I even started starting for the Steelers,” Brown claimed. “Literally, he had to go tell Bruce Arians like, ‘Yo, I need AB at the X. Let me have him run these plays.'”
Arians was Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator when Brown joined the team in 2010. They later reunited to win a Super Bowl together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Brown hasn’t played in the NFL since leaving a 2021 game.
Brown claimed Arians held him back throughout their relationship, and he said he ran off the field because his therapist advised him to separate himself from traumatic situations.
Although Brown still has animosity toward Arians, time seems to have softened his feelings toward Roethlisberger. The wideout called his former quarterback a “loser” in 2019, but he apologized the following year.
“I never realized how good I had it, got caught up in my emotion with everyone coming after me,” Brown wrote on Instagram in 2020. “I really apologize for my actions sincerely man! It’s never been another connection like what we done in the past decade. I appreciate you.”
