The Pittsburgh Steelers traded quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles this Friday. This move was made nearly two years after drafting him in the first round.
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers had to move Pickett because he wasn’t properly handling the arrival of Russell Wilson.
“The Steelers made the move because of the way Pickett was poorly handling the arrival of Russell Wilson, according to sources,” Dulac said. “That came on the heels of Pickett’s behavior last season when he refused to dress as the emergency third quarterback in Seattle in Week 17.”
Shortly after this trade was announced, the NFL world started speculating about the rest of Pittsburgh’s depth chart. Outside of Wilson, the Steelers are lacking depth at quarterback.
Judging by most of the comments being made on social media, people think the Steelers should try to acquire Justin Fields this offseason.
“With Kenny Pickett being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, now the perfect spot for Justin Fields is in Pittsburgh if the Chicago Bears trade him,” Robert Griffin III said. “Compete with and sit behind Russ for a year, get a reset and be their dynamic QB of the future.”
“If I’m Fields I want to go to Pittsburgh again,” Brad Spielberger tweeted. “Steelers have so little capital invested in Russ, and he’s not a long-term solution even if it goes well.”
Another person wrote, “I really think the Steelers are targeting Justin Fields. They just traded Kenny Pickett to the Eagles, and the Bears just signed Brett Rypien. Brett will back up Caleb Williams. Fields will come to Pittsburgh to study under Russell Wilson.”
The Chicago Bears are expected to draft Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick. If so, that makes Fields expendable.
Do you think the Steelers should pursue Fields?
