The Kenny Pickett “era” for the Pittsburgh Steelers came to an end on Friday, making Russell Wilson their unquestioned starter for the 2024 season.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Steelers traded Pickett after he demanded out. Apparently, the former first-round pick wasn’t happy about the front office signing Wilson to a one-year contract.
On Saturday morning, Wilson tweeted, “Gratitude & Joy defeats fear & worry!”
NFL fans are convinced that Wilson took a shot at Pickett with this post.
“Shots fired,” a fan said. “Love it!”
Another fan replied, “He roasted Pickett hard here.”
“Well if this isn’t a shot,” a third fan commented.
It’s important to note that Wilson constantly posts encouraging messages on social media. There’s a good chance this Saturday’s tweet has nothing to do with Pickett.
That being said, the timing is a bit hilarious.
Wilson told reporters that he spoke with Pickett after signing with the Steelers. He said, “I got to talk to him a little bit and I just told him, ‘Hey let’s go out there, let’s be the best version of ourselves to try to make this team better.'”
Instead of battling Wilson for the starting job, Pickett has elected to be Jalen Hurts’ backup. At least that’ll eliminate any potential controversy in Pittsburgh.
