The Justin Fields era is officially over in the Windy City and nearly everyone is in agreement on what this means next.
The Bears dealt Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday for a conditional sixth-round pick, per the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Clearing the decks for Chicago to draft Caleb Williams No. 1 and restart the clock on its rebuild.
Across social media, football fans talked about what this trade means for the Bears:
“It goes without saying: Caleb Williams is firmly in the #Bears sights,” Rapoport commented.
“The ruining of Caleb Williams begins,” tweeted Aaron Nagler.
“Looks like the Bears are drafting a qb. Commanders fans who wanted to trade up got dreams and hopes,” a fan laughed.
“I’m excited for the future, but he deserved so much better… JF1 fan for life,” a Chicagoan said.
Fields leaves Chitown with a 10-28 record but loads of untapped potential while Caleb Williams (likely) enters with the chance to become the Bears’ first superstar quarterback since the late Sid Luckman.
The writing has mostly been on the wall that the Bears would ultimately move on from Fields (no matter their feelings on him) just because Williams’ talent paired with the opportunity to make the most out of their salary would be too much to pass up.
