Mike Lombardi knows which team he wants quarterback Russell Wilson to sign with.
Appearing on the Friday edition of the “Pat McAfee Show,” the former general manager of the Cleveland Browns made it clear that he thinks Wilson should sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“If I was Russell Wilson I would go to Pittsburgh because of how good they are defensively,” Lombardi said. “You know they’re gonna run the football with Artie Smith and they got really good skill players there.”
Wilson makes a lot of sense for the Steelers as a stop-gap option since they don’t have a long-term quarterback on the roster. They thought they had their next franchise quarterback in Kenny Pickett but he’s been a big disappointment over the last two seasons.
The fact that the Steelers are even entertaining signing Wilson should show everyone what their confidence level in Pickett is.
Even though Wilson is 35, he still had a good season last year, finishing with 3,070 yards through the air, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He was released by the Broncos after he wasn’t able to lead them to the playoffs over the last two seasons.
Right now, he’s still meeting with the Steelers at their facility. We’ll see if a deal can get done.
