Once a Steeler, always a Steeler—or so the saying goes. But in Week 14, a former Steelers kicker prevented Pittsburgh from closing the AFC playoff gap, proving that some bonds only go so far.
All jokes aside, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Matthew Wright, who played six games for the Pittsburgh Steelers between 2020 and 2022, made the game-winning field goal on Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers, maintaining his team’s lead over Pittsburgh in the AFC conference race.
The Buffalo Bills, who hold the second seed in the AFC, lost their Week 14 matchup to the Los Angeles Rams, dropping to 10-3 on the season. The Bills currently hold a tiebreaker over the Steelers due to a better divisional record, but a Chiefs loss in Week 14 would have given Pittsburgh a clear pathway to securing the number one overall seed in the AFC.

Hopefully, Wright is saving another doink for his team’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day. This time, though, Steelers fans are hoping it will take a Black and Gold bounce to miss.
