Despite the excitement surrounding his arrival in Pittsburgh, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t making any promises to Justin Fields.
Per The MMQB’s Albert Breer, Tomlin was upfront with Fields — letting him know that Russell Wilson has the leg up as the team’s starter and he can work his way up from there.
Adding, “Fields has told people he’s excited for the new beginning” and “Tomlin’s connections at Ohio State run deep, so that didn’t hurt.”
Fields was dealt to the Steelers for a conditional sixth-round pick after tons of speculation about his future in Chicago.
Taking to social media shortly after the move the former No. 11 pick thanked the city he called his first NFL home for three memorable years.
Can’t say thank you enough to the city of Chicago for taking me in and embracing me. Thank you to the entire Bears organization and ownership for allowing me the opportunity to be part of such a historic franchise. But most of all thank you to my all my brothers that I played with. You all were the reason I attacked each day the way I did. I can’t thank you all enough for what y’all have meant to me over the last 3 years through the ups and downs. I wish each one of you nothing but success. Ready for this next chapter!
Wilson and Fields bring hope to an organization starving for some talent at the quarterback position. It’s been a pretty rough go of it for Steeler Nation since Big Ben said goodbye.
