Making the most of it award
About as easy a choice as it gets: New wide receiver Mike Williams played just nine snaps but recorded the game-winning touchdown. He gets the award in his first game as a Steeler.
Steelers Week 11 snap count takeaways
- Darnell Washington out-snapped Pat Freiermuth at tight end this week. When the Steelers want to run the ball, the 6’7, 270-plus-pounder is their guy.
- Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren once again saw an even split of snaps with 34 apiece. Cordarrelle Patterson recorded eight. The Steelers are utilizing their talented running back room.
- George Pickens was unsurprisingly the Steelers’ top receiver in terms of snaps on Sunday. Calvin Austin III saw a decrease from the Steelers’ last game (60%) to this week (45%). Van Jefferson saw just below his usual amount at 68%, with Ben Skowronek and Mike Williams seeing 7% and 12% of offensive snaps, respectively. It’ll be interesting to see how the distribution looks next week, with Williams being more comfortable in the Pittsburgh offense.
- Preston Smith played an impressive 37% of defensive snaps despite being on the Steelers for less than a week. He filled in admirably for the injured Alex Highsmith.
- Cameron Sutton, also in his first Steelers game this season, saw 31% of the defensive snaps. Beanie Bishop Jr.’s snap percentage dropped from the Steelers’ last game (85% to 56%), but Sutton seemed to largely eat into the snaps vacated by the recently released Terrell Edmunds. Depth defensive back snaps were somewhat down across the board due to the Commanders’ heavy personnel packages.
- The change in scheme can also be seen with Elandon Roberts (64% of defensive snaps) leapfrogging Payton Wilson (22%) at inside linebacker in Week 10. It had been trending the opposite direction ahead of the Commanders” game.
- Keeanu Benton jumped from 49% of defensive snaps in Week 8 to 85% in Week 10. Cam Heyward also saw a similar jump (67% to 86%).
- In their first game back from injured reserve, Ben Skowronek and Tyler Matakevich tied for the team lead in special teams snaps with 23 each.
- The Steelers’ offense to defense ratio this week: 75:59.
