It’s been a little over a week since Russell Wilson agreed to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It was the first of several moves that the Steelers made regarding their quarterback room. They later traded Kenny Pickett before bringing in Justin Fields to back Wilson up.
Wilson is expected to be the starter when the 2024 season begins and J.J. Watt is a big fan of it.
“I think Russell Wilson being able to sign a vet minimum deal while still getting paid a dull $38 million by the Broncos puts him in a very unique position to be able to choose where he wants to go, where he feels like he can make a significant impact,” Watt said, via Fox News. “Also, the train can bring him in at a serious value.”
“I think it’s a low-risk, high-reward potential for a team like Pittsburgh.”
Watt is exactly right when it comes to the move being low-risk. Wilson is getting the league minimum to play for the Steelers and is only signed for this season.
If he ends up being bad, they can bench him and then move on once the season comes to an end.
This would also allow the Steelers to see what they have in Fields after trading for him on Saturday.
