Just days after negotiating a one-year contract with Russell Wilson, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded former first-round pick Kenny Pickett.
The Steelers sent Pickett and a 2024 fourth-round pick to the Eagles for pick No. 98 in this year’s draft and a pair of 2025 seventh-round picks.
Shortly after this trade was announced, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed that Pickett wanted out of Pittsburgh.
“How did this go sideways? Mike Tomlin had promised Kenny Pickett he’d get a chance to compete,” Pelissero wrote. “Pickett learned about the Russell Wilson signing on social media Sunday night. When they spoke the next morning, Tomlin told Pickett that Wilson was in pole position and would get the first reps. So, Pickett asked for a trade. Now he’s an Eagle.”
Believe it or not, Pickett ended up liking this tweet from Pelissero. It’s still there on his X account.
Pickett liking this post all but confirms that he wasn’t a fan of the Steelers signing Wilson.
The Steelers hoped Pickett would be their franchise quarterback when they selected him in 2022. However, his production through two seasons was pretty disappointing.
Pickett had 4,474 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his only two seasons with the Steelers. Per reports, he wasn’t thrilled that Mason Rudolph took over the starting job late in the year.
As for Philadelphia, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Pickett ends up being the starter for the Eagles since they have Jalen Hurts.
