The Pittsburgh Steelers have made no changes to the quarterback depth chart with training camp getting underway this week.
Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed on Wednesday that Russell Wilson has the “pole position” at training camp and nothing has changed regarding that. He also confirmed that he’ll manage the reps between Wilson and Justin Fields “very carefully.”
Reporter: “Does Russell Wilson still have the pole position at QB?”
Mike Tomlin: “Nothing has changed.”
How will you mange the reps?
Tomlin: “Very carefully.”

Wilson also had pole position during OTAs and minicamp and didn’t do anything to lose it. He and Fields will still compete in training camp but Wilson is still expected to start in Week One.
The Steelers revamped their quarterback room following their playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. Mason Rudolph signed with the Tennessee Titans while Mitch Trubisky signed back with the Bills.
Kenny Pickett was dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles after the Steelers brought both Wilson and Fields in when the new league year started. They want more consistency at the position and felt Pickett wasn’t giving them that over the last two seasons.
The Steelers will have their first open practice on Thursday and will continue to practice until they play their first preseason game on August 9 against the Houston Texans.
They’ll then play two more preseason games before opening the regular season against the Atlanta Falcons on September 8.
