When the Pittsburgh Steelers go on the clock in the first round of the 2025 NFL, they will have a huge decision to make. The Steelers watched their season collapse and the entire team understands how important this pick could be for the future of the franchise.
So when ESPN NFL draft writer Field Yates put out his post-Super Bowl mock draft, we wanted to see what direction Yates went. We have to admit it was something of a surprise when Yates opted for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart as the third quarterback off the board.
This projection represents a big rise up the board from where Dart currently ranks outside my top 32, but quarterbacks always have a chance to climb given positional value. Keep an eye on Dart here as we get closer to April.
While we are big fans of Dart and think he’s the quarterback everyone thought Kenny Pickett would be but better, taking him at No. 21 feels like a reach similar to the Pickett choice.
Seeing wide receivers Emeka Egbuka and Luther Burden still on the board along with defensive tackle Kenneth Grant makes us wonder if reaching for a quarterback early helps this team more than any of those picks. The Steelers are set to lose multiple wide receivers and are still lacking a true No. 1 and starting defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi is a prime candidate to be a salary-cap casualty.
