Could the Steelers end up with the defensive game-wrecker
The NFL Draft is less than a week away, and everyone has their thoughts on what the Pittsburgh Steelers should do with their first-round pick at No. 21 overall.
Moe Moton of Bleacher Report weighed in, and he named Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon as the Steelers’ most ideal selection.
“Cameron Heyward will turn 36 years old in May,” Moton writes. “The Pittsburgh Steelers shouldn’t rely solely on him to make game-changing plays across the defensive front while Keeanu Benton comes along in his third year. If the Steelers intend to knock the Baltimore Ravens off their AFC North throne, they need to be stronger up front to slow down Derrick Henry. Derrick Harmon could help the Steelers in that regard.”
Harmon is projected to be one of the top defensive tackles taken in this year’s draft. He had five sacks in 2024 with the Ducks, as well as 11 tackles for loss. In his college career, he had 8.5 sacks with 18 tackles for loss.
Interior defensive line is seen as a large need for Pittsburgh, and many would like to see them take one of the top players in a loaded defensive tackle class. Whether it’s Harmon, Walter Nolen, or Kenneth Grant, a potential star defensive lineman to put next to Keeanu Benton for the long-term future would give their defense a new strength.
