EA Sports released its official trailer for its upcoming release of Madden NFL 25 and NFL fans are already pointing out something that they probably shouldn’t have done.
At the start of the 83-second trailer, the Cleveland Browns kick off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But back to receive the kickoff is Steelers quarterback Justin Fields, who then hands off the ball to Cordarrelle Patterson in a pretty cool transition shot.
While EA Sports might have thought they were making a joke, nobody’s laughing with them – only at them.

“In the official trailer, EA Sports has Justin Fields returning kicks for the #Steelers, with Fields then handing the ball off to Cordarrelle Patterson,” Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team wrote.
“The #Madden25 trailer really opens with Justin Fields receiving a kickoff then handing it off to Cordarelle Patterson on a reverse,” wrote another user.
“Why is Justin fields returning kicks? Brother we are not buying this,” a third user declared.
Other than the issue with Fields as the kick returner, there’s the usual back-and-forth between fans over whether the game is a copied and pasted version of previous games.
Some fans were completely sold on the game and are ready for EA Sports to “take my money” while others believe it’s more of the same.
We’ll have to wait until in-game footage is more widely available to pass judgment on that.
