Who had this on their Steelers bingo card?
According to NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, Pittsburgh could reportedly be making a huge play for a wide receiver this offseason. Sharing over the weekend that a source close to the situation says the team is trying to acquire the 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk for Russell Wilson.
Aiyuk has been rumored to be frustrated with his contract situation going into the final year of his rookie deal. The back-to-back 1,000-yard receiver recently unfollowed the Niners on social media and has made it no secret that he wants a long-term extension.
“I’m trying to get what I deserve,” the San Francisco wideout recently said while appearing on “Nightcap” with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson. “I feel like this season playing football, I figured out who I was as a person and a player — what I bring to the table, what I bring to the locker room, what I bring to the organization.”
“If they don’t see the worth in that, that’s all it is,” he added. “It ain’t nothing else besides that. I can’t get into it. We got professionals working on both sides, so hopefully we can come to a professional agreement to continue playing professional football.”
49ers GM John Lynch shot down the idea that the organization would trade Aiyuk to the Steelers at last month’s press conference. Telling reporters, “I promise you, nothing’s going on there.”
We’ll see.
