Despite completely re-tooling the quarterback depth chart last offseason, things are no better for the Steelers heading into the 2025 offseason. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are both free agents and it feels like the team has no idea what to do next.
The latest rumor making the rounds is that New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers doesn’t want to return to New York but wants to keep playing. And as is always the case, whenever a quarterback is on the market, the Steelers have to be involved.
But this would be a huge, expensive mistake. Rodgers is 42 years old and based on last season, his best football is well behind him. If the Steelers want to throw away the 2025 season and start a full rebuild, they can do it much cheaper than paying Rodgers to do it.
The hope is the Steelers will get either Wilson or Fields re-signed so they can avoid a very questionable group of free agents and can instead look to add a rookie via the 2025 NFL draft.
