The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing in an old friend who used to play under offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers and Cordarrelle Patterson have reached an agreement on a two-year deal. He had been one of the top free agents still available on the open market.
Patterson will serve as the team’s new kickoff returner and third running back behind Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris.
With the NFL’s new kickoff rules for the 2024 season, it makes sense for the Steelers to secure one of the top kickoff returners in the league.
Patterson spent the last three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and Smith, so the latter knows him quite well. He finished last season with 50 rushes for 181 yards and no touchdowns.
He was even better in 2022, finishing with 144 carries for 695 yards and eight touchdowns.
Patterson has also shown an ability to play wide receiver so Smith will be able to put him all over the field once the 2024 season starts.
After having one of the worst offenses in the league in 2023, the Steelers will at least have an offense that’s fun to watch this year.
