The Steelers fill an open spot on their practice squad.
The Steelers have begun to fill the open spots on their practice squad. Per a team announcement, Pittsburgh signed running back Aaron Shampklin to the practice squad on Wednesday.
Shampklin started the year on the Steelers’ practice squad. He was temporarily elevated to the team’s active roster for a September matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, and then signed to the 53-man roster in early October. He also appeared in games against the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders.
On the year, Shampklin has recorded six rushes for 17 yards. He’s added four kickoff returns for 101 yards with a long of 32.
Shampklin was released from the Steelers’ roster ahead of the team’s Week 8 matchup against the New York Giants. However, he cleared waivers and finds himself back on the Steelers’ practice squad. Shampklin provides solid depth on the practice squad, and on the 53-man roster, the Steelers expect to get versatile RB3 Cordarrelle Patterson back from injury in the coming weeks.
The Steelers still have two 53-man roster spots (although one will be filled by reinstated Cameron Sutton) and two practice squad spots open entering their bye week.
