Heyward talked about the QB situation on Not Just Football
The Pittsburgh Steelers will look to improve their record to 5-2 on the season when they host the New York Jets on Sunday night. The question remains on who will start at quarterback, though. While Justin Fields has played well, Russell Wilson took first-team reps in practice, which signifies he’ll make his season debut, but a decision has yet to be officially made by Mike Tomlin.
Speaking on the latest episode of Not Just Football, defensive tackle Cam Heyward says that the team supports both quarterbacks.
“We ride with both quarterbacks,” Heyward said. “We think both of them can have success. It’s not a shot at either [Wilson or Fields]. I think when you look at these two, these guys are in here to win, and they’re doing that. I don’t know what’s going on. I’m not going to try and predict or be in somebody’s mind of what they think, but as a player on this team, i will make sure that both guys are supported. And I will make sure that we give both of these quarterbacks a chance to win each of these games.”
It’s clear the Steelers believe in both guys. In starting Wilson, Pittsburgh likely believes he will give them more in the passing game. With Fields, there is the element of his legs that make him a dangerous dual-threat. Both do different things well that can help elevate the offense, and we’ll see who ends up getting the nod in Week 7.
