That one hurt…
The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to 3-2 after a disappointing showing in Week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys — handing the Steelers another positive in the column of their storied history against one another.
It took awhile to get the game going after a long delay due to lightning and severe weather, and once they did, the Cowboys won the coin toss and elected to receive, and it was all downhill from there.
There wasn’t much offensive firepower in this outing for the Steelers or the Cowboys, though, entering the half with just nine total points scored. It was a brutal first half for Fields in particular, who completed just four of nine attempts for 35 yards, 0 TDs and 0 INTs.
The Steelers attempted a comeback in the second half with two passing touchdowns from Fields (one to TE/FB Connor Heyward, one to TE Pat Freiermuth), but it wasn’t enough in the end. Up four points with 5:32 to go, the Steelers allowed a touchdown on a 15-play, 70-yard drive for a Cowboys lead.
Despite their best attempts on the final possession of the game, including a lateral-pass festival, they were unable to overcome the deficit, losing 20-17 at home to a Cowboys team that was without most of their top defensive playmakers.
It was a failure on most fronts, with the Cowboys outpacing the Steelers in most categories, including first down conversions, yards per play and time of possession despite the Steelers’ defense forcing three total turnovers on the day, including two interceptions from Cowboys QB Dak Prescott.
