The Pittsburgh Steelers decided to quiet some of the speculation surrounding Mike Tomlin’s future on Monday.
Per The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov, the Steelers and Tomlin have agreed on a three-year extension to keep the Super Bowl champion from coaching on the final year of his current deal.
Tomlin seemed confident that a deal would get eventually get done speaking to the media after Pittsburgh’s playoff loss. Telling ESPN.com:
“I expect to be back, and I would imagine that those contract things are going to run their course. Art [Rooney II] and I have a really good, transparent relationship. We communicate continually often. I don’t imagine it’s going to be an issue, and I imagine it’s going to get done in a timely manner at the appropriate time, but my mindset is to coach his football team.”
Tomlin was once again able to avoid a losing season for the 17th straight year despite continued offensive struggles (especially at the quarterback position).
Mike T is one of the most well-respected and well-liked coaches around the league thanks to his infectious enthusiasm about the game and ability to motivate his players.
With that said, the Steelers have not won a playoff game since 2016 and fans in the ‘Burgh are starving to wave their Terrible Towels to some postseason success.
Hopefully that’s something Tomlin is able to give them over the next few years.
