Pittsburgh fills its 53-man roster and elevates two practice squad players.
The Steelers filled their remaining open roster spot and elevated two practice squad players ahead of Sunday night’s matchup against the New York Jets. Per a team announcement, Pittsburgh signed outside linebacker Ade Ogundeji from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, and elevated running back Jonathan Ward and wide receiver Brandon Johnson from the practice squad.
Ogundeji has had a busy past few weeks. He was signed to the Steelers’ roster ahead of last week’s game against the Raiders, waived afterwards, and then signed back to the practice squad. Now he finds himself back on the 53-man roster. He’ll provide depth to a Steelers outside linebacker room that’s down Nick Herbig, but has Alex Highsmith returning for Week 7.
Pittsburgh now has an open spot on its practice squad.
Ward and Johnson have both been elevated from the practice squad before this year, and likely will serve as replacements for Cordarrelle Patterson and Roman Wilson on the Steelers’ active roster on Sunday. They will both revert back following the game.
Ward has rushed five times for 22 yards this year. Johnson has caught one pass for nine yards this year, but he caught 19 passes for 284 yards last year as one of Russell Wilson’s receivers in Denver.
We might see that connection again on this week’s Sunday Night Football.
