Following two big wins against the Jet and Raiders, the Steelers hope to hit their bye week on a hot streak after their upcoming Week 8 matchup against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
Earlier this week, we polled fans about their confidence in the direction the team is heading, how they’d grade Russell Wilson’s Steelers debut, and how the Steelers will finish in the AFC North. Here’s what they had to say.
Fans give Russell Wilson’s debut high marks
The majority of Steelers fans didn’t support starting Russell Wilson last week, but he outperformed expectations, setting the record for the most passing yards in a Steelers debut against the Jets. Wilson’s play resulted in high grades from fans, with 64% giving him a “B” and 30% giving him an “A.” At the moment, Steelers fans seem happy with their new starting quarterback.
Fans predict a second-place finish in the AFC North
A change at quarterback didn’t seem to change the AFC North predictions of Steelers fans, with most predicting a second-place finish in the division this year. After Week 2 we asked the same question and got similar results, with 46% choosing second place.
This time 38% of fans are predicting a first-place finish — tied for the best record in the AFC North at 5-2, Pittsburgh has a good chance, but it’ll be a battle at the end of the season with the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals heating up.
Fan confidence levels double following Week 7 win
Following a big win over the Jets, fan confidence nearly hit a season-high at 91%, the best since 92% after Week 3. It’s a massive jump from last week, when confidence sat at just 44%. Back-to-back big wins will do that.
