On Sunday, the Steelers look to be starting a new face at quarterback as they prepare to take on the 2-4 New York Jets in Week 7.
Earlier this week, we polled fans about their confidence in the direction the team is heading, their thoughts on Russell Wilson starting, and how they’d grade defensive coordinator Teryl Austin so far this season
Steelers fans have mixed reaction to QB change
Just 40% of Steelers fans think starting Russell Wilson against the Jets is the right decision. It’s been the story of the week, and the switch was seemingly confirmed by wide receiver George Pickens on Friday.
Wilson hasn’t played yet this season and barely saw any snaps in the preseason. Sunday’s performance should finally provide some answers to the debate that’s raged all season.
Steelers fans give DC Teryl Austin a “C” in 2024 so far
C’s get degrees! They also lead to 4-2 records, apparently. The Steelers’ defense ranks in the top 10 for the majority of important metrics this season, including No. 2 in points per game. But two disappointing showings this season against the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys have fans feeling a little underwhelmed with defensive coordinator Teryl Austin’s performance.
The Steelers’ defense has definitely left something to be desired at times this season, but there’s plenty of time left (and talent) to leave Austin with better grades by the end of the year.
An equal percentage of A’s and F’s also shows just how much opinions can vary.
44% of fans are confident in the Steelers
After dropping dramatically for the last two weeks, Pittsburgh’s confidence levels are finally on the rise, going from 30% last week to 44% this week. Perhaps another win will get the percentage back over 50%.
